IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS, VIENNA-HEIDJÖCHL

EUROPAN is committed to supporting young design teams even after the competition ends — helping bring visionary ideas like this one into reality through ongoing implementation partnerships.
The Europan 17 winning team behind “The park that reaches every home” recently visited Vienna to continue the work on the future urban district “Am Heidjöchl.” In collaboration with local partner office M+S, they are currently developing urban development guidelines for the 35-hectare site in Donaustadt.

Their vision: a livable, climate-adapted neighborhood with affordable homes for approximately 11,000 people, embedded in generous green infrastructure. Around 10 hectares of new public parks will take shape – half within the site, the rest forming part of the adjacent “Park of Biodiversity.”

Excellent public transport links will connect the area with the rest of the city, including tram line 27 (with two stops on-site) and two nearby metro stations. The district will also include kindergartens, a secondary school (AHS), and an education campus to support a vibrant, family-friendly community.
The first residents are expected to move in by 2031 — marking the start of a diverse and sustainable new part of Vienna.
