Project Description by Team: This project aims to make Lochau a natural place of diverse coexistence. The enriching of public space will promote caring for the shared commons and for cohabitation among the residents. The renaturated rivers will become the needed ecological backbone with their ecosystem services. These green lungs serve not only as habitats for animals but also as soft-mobility routes from the centre of the village to the lakeshore because passerelles for pedestrians and cyclists ensure a free connection. A bird island provides an ecological compensation for the necessary densification. Thus, the entrance to the harbour can be changed and more public beaches can be generated. At important points, density must be promoted, but with prioritising the lake/city axis, habitats, and recreational quality.
Jury Statement: "It is positive to emphasise that the public space, especially in front of the station, will be considerably enlarged. One outstanding idea of this project is undoubtedly the passerelle and the impressive views it offers. [...] Even so the architecture is not fully expressed, it shows a kind of wrapping around and extending up the harbour front building. The structure of the ferry is retained, but it is gutted so that only a small central portion can be reused, which is seen interesting in terms of sustainability. This project also keeps within the original footprint, which is received positively. [...] "
